Pests that like to live inside your home are:
Ants are actually after water not as everyone thinks sweet sugary or food. There are various types such as Argentine Ant, Black House Ant, White-footed House Ant, Coastal Brown Ant, Carpenter Ant and Bull Ants. It’s important to identify the type of ant, and where they’re coming from before effective treatment can be applied. Watch out for these small armies of insects.
Common spiders are Red Backs, White Tails and Huntsmen. They will move in anywhere inside or outside and set up their homes anywhere such as in your shoes, clothes and toys. One bite and if you have a allergic reaction to the bacteria they carry or the venom it can do terrible damage to a persons skin or can even cause death in some cases and depending on the type of spider, and there are hundreds of species.
Cochroachers can cause disgust in many people and they can take over your home in the most unlikely places in just a matter of days. There a various types found in Melbourne including – German Cockroach, American Cockroach, Oriental Cockroach, Australian Cockroach and the Common Shining Cockroach. Cockroaches are primarily scavengers, feeding on dead animals, plant matter and food scraps so it’s important to keep the kitchen clean.
Silverfish don’t seem to be such a bother you until you wear your favourite dress and realise it has silverfish holes in it. Silverfish can be difficult to get rid of alone, as they prefer to live in quiet places such as ceiling, roofs, on walls, bookshelves, built in robes, closets, storage boxes and rooms. They are starch eaters feeding off plasterboard, books consuming glues and of course your clothes that may contain starches from glues, foods, etc. Silverfish often enter homes via the roof and walls cavities and they love damp humid environments, so be sure to keep areas well ventilated.
You will know when you have them, they leave itching bite marks all over your body. And once in your bed they could also be in your closet and clothes. Don’t take chance with bed bugs, as their bites can cause wheals (red bite marks) on your arms, shoulders or back. Signs that you have Bed Bugs include Blood spotting, faecal marks, egg cases on mattress. If you travel regularly (especially internationally), then common places that you could bring them back are from infested motels, backpackers or hotels.
Mice, Rats (Rodents)
You will hear them scratching up and down your walls and ceiling. Do NOT ignore them as they move in for the warmth and to breed their young ones. Rodents have no respect for humans, and it’s estimated that their population in Australia is the same as the people. Various types include, Roof rat, Norway rat and the common House mouse. Rats and mice are so closely linked to humans that they are called domestic rodents and that’s why our humans supplies are also their basic needs: food, shelter, and water.
Fleas will live indoors or outdoors and they will feast on you, your children, your pets. The bites will leave you itching, irritation and scratching for days. Then there are pet fleas which can bite your dogs, cats etc. Fleas respond to vibration when you enter the room and they start jumping as they sense a possible someone to target. The eggs of a flea are tiny, white and oval-shaped, and female flea can lay up to 600 eggs in her lifetime. So be sure to eradicate them in their tracks.
Termites will normally be hiding on the inside of your walls or roof and again NOT to be ignored. They will do so much internal damage to the frame work of your home and the speed of a termite infestation is something that you don’t want to see happen. We can perform the kind of inspection and treatment that will protect your home or business, before they cause you more long term damage and costs. Don’t let it be too late before you realise they are there.
Known as a stored product or textile pest, there are various types such as – Angoumois grain moth, Indian meal moth, Mediterranean flour moth, Warehouse moth, Clothes moth and the Case-bearing clothes moth. Most people are repelled by moths as they spread their powder around, and can be hard to catch. The female can lay between 100 – 700 eggs in and among food source and they usually fasten their eggs to the infested material. The eggs usually hatch in 3 – 5 days so be sure to get rid of moths as soon as you can.
Pests that like to live outdoors are:
Bees and wasps
Mostly found outdoors and with a sting to a person who is allergic to them it can be fatal. Most wasps found in Melbourne are the European Wasp or Paper Wasp. Then we get both native and honey bees, and in smaller amounts the solitary Mortar Bee found in bricks and mortar. They like living in large paper like nests, found in a variety of places in around the home, hollows in trees and behind timber retaining walls, just to name a few locations. Don’t attempt Bee and Wasp control unless you know what you are doing!
Birds can be pests as they leave their droppings on your car, your outdoor furniture, on your washing and especially in dining areas. They can even eat and dig up your gardens and make a mess. We ensure your business is protected without harming or damaging the wildlife, and then can help with bird control and preventative measures. There are many bird types but just to name a few that could be of nuisance to you are Indian Mynas, Pigeons, Sparrows, Starlings, Seagulls.
Feral cats can spread diseases and they will breed like no tomorrow. They can be extremely harmful to your children or your pets. They can be found in nearly all habitats across Australia, and they’ve actually caused the extinction of some of our native species and mainly eat small native and exotic mammals, birds, lizards and insects. Cats now occupy 99% of Australia, including many offshore islands, and where brought in to control rodent problems. But if you’re having trouble with them, don’t expect them to just leave.
These nocturnal animals can keep you up all night. Extremely cute little creatures but will happily live inside your warm roof space and breed their young. Plus they will eat, drink and leave their mess behind along with the smell. Brush tail and Ringtail possums have successfully adapted to life in suburbia and have become a persistent pest in homes. They can also rifle through garbage and make a mess while creating an unsanitary environment in your own home, so be sure to get us to come along and get rid of them out of your home without causing them any harm.Call Brett 0427 378 777
